Tulsi Benefits and Uses: A Practical Guide to Holy Basil

What is tulsi?
Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), or holy basil, is grown in homes across India and used in Ayurveda for seasonal wellness. Its leaves are aromatic and slightly peppery.
Traditional uses
People commonly use tulsi for cough, sore throat and cold-season comfort, and as a calming herbal tea. Small studies suggest possible benefits for stress and blood sugar, but evidence is still limited.
How to use it
Simmer 8 to 10 leaves with ginger and a little honey for a simple tea. Fresh leaves can also be added to water or kadha.
Who should be careful
Pregnant women, people on blood thinners or diabetes medicine, and anyone with a planned surgery should ask a doctor first.
Educational only. Consult a doctor before using herbs.
